5 Benefits of Bootcamps/Group Training
1. Physical Exercise
The #1 benefit is obviously physical exercise! Bootcamps, in general, are circuit style training which usually involve bursts of activity with short, if any, rest. These exercises are great for getting your heart rate up and increasing cardiovascular endurance while performing strength training.
2. Community
Getting into health and fitness can be intimidating on your own. By participating in bootcamps you are joining a community that is also pursuing the same goals as you. This allows you to lean on each other for motivation when you feel like giving up and quitting.
3. Accountability
With having a community around you for motivation, it also helps to hold you accountable to achieving your goals. When you have friends who are consistently attending group workouts, it creates a social pressure to show up and be accountable. Even if they don’t directly call you out for skipping workouts, you might wonder deep down if they are thinking that and that alone can be enough to motivate you to not skip them.
4. Sunshine
Well, of course this applies only to outdoor workouts… and for the sun to be out. But, for the sake of the argument just assume it to be sunny out! Being that most of our time is spent indoors, we miss out on the benefits the sun can provide for us. It provides a source of Vitamin D (an essential vitamin), improves sleep, boosts mood, decreases stress and many more benefits!
5. Endorphins
During exercise the body releases endorphins. Endorphins are a feel good hormone and a form of a natural painkiller! As you exercise, your brain is tricked into reducing the pain with endorphins. This allows you to turn that pain into feeling good when you might otherwise not want to do it. So, while you may dread exercising, as you begin to do so you will feel much better and stay motivated to keep doing it!
